Influencers fashion their own style for Christmas celebrations
Prints, bold colours and comfortable yet fashionable wear is all the rage this festive season as Cape Town’s stylish influencers lay out the blueprint eye catching trends.
Local fashionistas Tarryn Kay Trussell van Louw, Chad Biegenaar and Paula Lakay are known for being fashion-forward and will be celebrating Christmas in style.
Trussell van Louw (@tkskingdom, former Good Hope FM presenter and media personality) said bright and beautiful colours were in vogue this season.
“I am obsessed with bright orange, fuchsia pink, bright green and rich canary yellow. These colours work so well with our skin tone,” she said.
She added: “No matter the style or cut of the garment, it’s the colour that is the trend. I love seeing everyone embracing these beautiful colours in their own way.”
Trussell van Louw said she usually dresses according to her mood on the day.
“For me, style, fashion and the entire ensemble is an ‘inside out’ sort of thing,” she said.
“When you feel good in something, you look good in it. I will be wearing something bold in colour, something fun and quirky,” she added.
“Comfort is of utmost importance so that I can eat as much as I want to and not feel strangled.”
Her advice to anyone still searching for what to wear on Christmas day was straightforward.
“Opt for comfort and confidence. Make sure you feel good in the garment. Bright oversized cotton shirts are your best friend as they are perfect for hiding your food baby after lunch,” she said.
“Wear heels for the first part of the day and photos, but always pack in a pair of flats so that you can be comfortable but still stylish.”
Stylist Chad Biegenaar (@thelocalblogger) said for women, it’s all about the vivid colours and the glitz and the glam. “This includes electric hues, shimmer embellishments and colour blocking.”
“For men, I’d advise co-ord sets with fun prints and easy suiting which is a more relaxed fit type of suit. Let us not forget that prints and vivid colours are a big trend,” he added.
Biegenaar said he was still undecided about what to wear.
“The vision I have for the day is a chunky loafer, a white shirt and a trouser that is made of light airy material. The outfit will be completed with various accessories,” he said.
“I prefer a simple yet comfortable look that I can make formal by adding a blazer and formal shoes, and dress down by replacing the shirt with a T-shirt or golfer,” he added.
His advice for Christmas styling is threefold.
“Firstly, wear clothes that match your body type and if they don’t, don’t be afraid to find a tailor. Secondly, buy garments that are versatile and that you will be able to wear again,” he said.
He added: “Play around with colour, mix patterns and textures.”
Lakay (@mspaulabee), a lifestyle content creator, said she believed red was the colour for the festive season.
“I spend a lot of time on TikTok forecasting trends, and most of what I see is red outfits with a touch of either gold or silver,” she said.
“A trend I am loving for Christmas fashion in 2022 is silver instead of gold outfits and accessories,” she added.
“Sparkly dresses, tops and shoes in a stunning silver tone are very hot this Christmas season.”
For Christmas, Lakay will be at her family’s home and plans to dress comfortably.
“I will be wearing a pretty dress and sandals,” she said.
Lakay’s advice for dressing on Christmas Day is that comfort is key.
“I would suggest wearing something that is not too tight because you will be sitting, eating and socialising,” she said.
“A dress is perfect for that, but I would also suggest a pair of loose pants and a sparkly top,” she added.
“Lastly, keep within the theme of festive cheer. Do so by adding a pop of red, green or white to your look on the day. This can be in the form of painting your nails or adding a red lip. It’s very cliché but always looks good in photos.”
