COMPETITIVE gamers who have been duelling to be crowned kings of the Street Fighter V and Tekken 7 competition will enter the filing ring at the finale this Saturday in Cape Town.
Red Bull’s “Hit the Streets” returned for its fourth consecutive year where gamers from around the country battled it out against each other for the chance to compete at the Red Bull Kumite competition, while representing their country at one of the most prestigious global tournaments for fighting game competitors.
The qualifying rounds for this competition began two weeks ago, with the final qualifiers taking place on December 16 at the Homecoming Centre.
The winning teams will take each other on at the finals on Saturday, December 17, at the V&A Waterfront amphitheatre.
Over the past three years, one person has been the proud winner of each competition. Jabhi Mabuza (Jabhi M), who has chosen to return this year to defend his title. Mabuza has also came out as a winner at Kumite in 2020.
“It’s very exciting to participate in an event that keeps on growing. Every time the event ends, we end up feeling like athletes,” he said.
“I am always excited to see what Red Bull has in store for us. At this point, I feel like this competition is home to me.
“I can lose every other tournament but not this one. I will always play at 120%.”
Farouk “DaXpt” Suleman claimed the Tekken 7 title during last year’s competition. He went on to represent South Africa at Kumite and came ninth.
“I am excited to be back to defend my title and want to make it two in a row. I know
it will be challenging, but I am ready for anything the other gamers bring,” he said.
