Mason Hendry’s rise in the BMX scene continues, and he can now firmly be considered one of the riders to beat whenever he lines up on the track. The 9-year-old once again defended his national champion status at the SA Championships held in Kempton Park last month.

Mason is a member of the Zone 7 BMX Club, which sent a strong contingent to the national event. Ten riders from the club travelled to Gauteng, with Mason emerging as one of the standout performers. He went unbeaten on the final day to successfully retain his national title.

He wasn’t the only rider to return home with silverware. His brother Cruz, along with Dylan Wiggil, Josh Milson, Peter Nelson, and Rayaan Wormald, all earned national plates. Jannie Munnik was unfortunate to be edged out on the line for the SA1 plate.

With the national championships behind them, the club now shifts its focus to hosting duties early next year. Zone 7 will stage the first three rounds of the SA Cup in March, giving local riders a valuable opportunity to chase victories on home soil.
