Orlando Pirates' Barcelona-linked sensation Relebohile Mofokeng and Springbok legend Eben Etzebeth, were both named Sportsperson of the Year by GQ magazine as part of their Men of the Year 2024.
The 20-year-old attacker had a brilliant year for the Sea Robbers. He starred in the league as they finished second last season, and famously scored a last-minute winner in the Nedbank Cup final against Mamelodi Sundowns.
He also ended the season by earning his first international cap, and has in recent weeks been sensationally linked with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona.
"Sportsperson of the Year: Relebohile Mofokeng is a professional footballer who plays as a midfielder and winger for Orlando Pirates and the South Africa national team," the publication said when making the announcement on their Instagram page.
"Mofokeng is quickly establishing himself as one of the most impressive talents in local football."
Named alongside Mofokeng was rugby star Etzebeth, who played a key role in helping the world champions win the Rugby Championship title while also becoming the most-capped Springbok in history.
Apart from starring for the Springboks, Etzebeth captained the Sharks as they became the first-ever South African team to win an EPCR title earlier this year.
"Sportsperson of the Year presented: Eben Etzebeth is a professional rugby union player who currently plays for the Sharks in the United Rugby Championship and the South Africa national rugby team," GQ wrote on Instagram.
"He made his international debut for the Springboks in 2012 and has since won 129 caps, making him the Springboks’ most capped player."
Topping off a brilliant year, Etzebeth was one of the nominees for World Rugby's Player of the Year Award last month, which was won by Bok teammate Pieter-Steph du Toit.
