Local football clubs will clash at the William Herbert sports complex this weekend to claim a spot in the coveted under-19 Bayhill Premier Cup.
Phase three of the play-offs will host 36 matches in Wynberg, on Saturday January 18 and Sunday January 19, from 10am to 3pm. This phase will feature 72 teams, with most making their debut in the 2025 play-offs.
So far, 60 teams have been eliminated, while 132 more are set to compete in the remaining five phases of the seven-phase play-offs.
Clarewood JPM and Bonteheuwel United AFC will open proceedings on Field A, on Saturday morning.
Mandalay LFA champions, Mandalay United FC will be a side to lookout for when they face Manenberg Sporting Academy, in the 11.15am fixtures, on Saturday.
The Project Playground (PPG) and Westridge FC match should be a humdinger at 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon.
City Bombers FC and Stanturf United FC will kick-off proceedings in the Sunday fixtures.
Bishop Lavis and Hanover Park are set to participate at 11.15am, on Field A, on Sunday.
After a dominating year in the junior local leagues and knockout competitions last year, Santos FC are expected to make a statement when they meet a stubborn Mighty Rebels in the 13.45pm fixtures on Sunday.
At the same time, D&G Orient will take on Blue Downs Spurs AFC on Field D.
Tournament director Rayaan Alie said the local organising committee intends to spread the rest of the play-offs to venues in Langa on Saturday January 25 and Sunday January 26, Solo Street in Retreat on Saturday February 1 and Sunday February 2, and Strandfontein on Saturday February 8 and Sunday February 9.
The play-offs will conclude with the round-robin (phase-seven) at William Herbert sports complex on Saturday February 22 and Sunday February 23.
Venues, however, are subject to change based on conditions and availability.
“We wish all our participants well over the next two months as the play-off phases intensify. We will be going at it week after week and we are excited to see who will make it through to the tournament proper in April this year. We have already had some upsets in the previous phases, and it will be interesting to see how things unfold over the next few weeks,” said Alie.
Ultimately, 12 teams will advance to the tournament proper from the play-offs, which began in October last year.
The local organising committee expressed excitement about announcing an international team during the main launch in March.
