How does it happen that fighters can look each other in the eye, share a laugh, keep a relaxed mood, and still promise to knock each other out a few days later?

In amateur MMA, that balance is completely normal.

At this level, the bigger goal is growth, finding opponents who will test you, push your limits, and help you shape your skillset. The competitiveness is real, but the focus remains on development.

That was the atmosphere this past Saturday at the Undisputed media day hosted at Fighterz Inc in Wetton.

The fighters taking part in the Undisputed MMA Championship event at Oaklands High School this coming Saturday stepped forward, faced off, and exchanged a few words about what they expect on fight night.

Reuben Job and Nic Laubscher are two of the most exciting young fighters in the city, and they know it. Both are grounded, respectful, and friendly outside the cage, but when they compete, they always deliver fireworks.

Zaahir Abrahams and Devon Sarkis will battle it out for the Featherweight strap this weekend. Promoter Fidaah Edries is seen standing between them.

Their upcoming Flyweight title fight is one of the standout matchups on the Undisputed card, and based on their past performances, it is expected to be one of the best amateur clashes in the city this year.

The new promotion, run by Fidaah Edries and Irshaad Ally, is carving out its own space in Cape Town’s MMA landscape. Their approach is simple: give young fighters a platform that feels professional and helps them gain valuable experience long before turning pro.

Even EFC champion Faeez Jacobs pointed out that he never had proper press conferences during his amateur days, highlighting how much the local grassroots scene has grown.

UMC’s setup shows a clear intent that they want to build the martial artists of the future and give them opportunities that were not always available before.

On Saturday, November 29, Undisputed will crown four new champions. Job and Laubscher will meet for the flyweight title, while Ayeesha Majiet faces Jen Bromwich for the women’s flyweight belt.

Yusuf Salie and Nilesh Jessa will contest the bantamweight strap, and Devon Sarkis will take on Zaahir Abrahams for the featherweight title.
