Ezrah Perrang closed the show with a submission victory to be crowned the lightweight champion in what was yet another thrilling fight card in Sunningdale Sports Complex. Perrang submitted Phillip Cronje in the main event of the fifth installment of the Barebones MMA Championships.
The two headliners are among the brightest young prospects in the MMA scene and their fight had all the makings of a cracker and it didn’t disappoint, while it lasted.
Perhaps the only disappointing part was Cronje losing in what is expected to be his final fight in the amateur ranks as he now sets his sights on turning professional. Perrang, too, is a future star and will likely follow that path soon if his amateur performances are anything to go by.

At the weekend, Perrang was one of six fighters to have a belt wrapped around his waist, in what can be called the best card in the young history of the Barebones MMA Championships. These titles serve as a gateway to the professional ranks for local fighters in a system spearheaded by SA MMA juniors coach Llyndall Sandenbergh.
Other champions crowned on Saturday night include Piete Lubbe, who claimed the Middleweight strap with a first-round submission victory over Steve Kassakula.

Once again, Job proved why he’s one of the most promising prospects in Cape Town. Not only does he possess sharp striking but his fight IQ sets him apart from his peers.
He, along with a host of other title competitors at Barebones, has paved a path that will surely serve him well in his MMA journey. Sandenbergh and her Barebones team raised the bar this time around and the fighters delivered in style
