Triple strike at Moses Mabhida by Amazulu adds to struggling Magesi’s woes

AmaZulu returned to winning ways with a 3-0 thumping of Magesi FC at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Usuthu leaped to fifth place on the Betway Premiership standings while Magesi’s first loss in three games sees them remain in the relegation zone.

January arrival Nkosikhona Radebe made a glorious start to life in Durban as he opened the scoring for Usuthu 21 minutes into the game.

In his first start for his new club after moving from TS Galaxy, the defender initially fluffed his lines before composing himself to slot home and give his side a deserved lead.

Although it took them until the 63rd minute before they doubled the advantage, Usuthu finally found breathing room through Tshepang Moremi.

The speedy attacker capitalised on a mistake in the Magesi backline and raced through to coolly slot the ball into the goal and took the game away from the visitors.

Second half substitute Andiswa Sithole added further gloss to the result as he tapped in another to all but end the game as a contest in the 76th minute.

This encounter pitted two teams in the opposite end of the form spectrum as AmaZulu looked to win their first game in three tries whilst Magesi arrived on the back of successive victories.

The hosts flew out of the blocks quicker and thought they had opened the scoring in the 10th minute via a free-kick but Sandile Mthethwa’s header was chalked off due to an infringement in the box.

The first stanza was all about the home side and rightfully took a half-time lead.

Although Magesi made attacking changes in the second half, they could not wrestle the game back in their favour and AmaZulu walked away the victors on the night.

Usuthu will have a full week of rest before facing Cape Town City on the 2nd of March while Magesi battle Stellenbosch next Tuesday.
