AFRICA Genesis Archery Northern Cape (AGA-NC) kicks off an exciting new archery season with growth and international opportunities.
The world of archery in the Northern Cape is soaring to new heights as AGA-NC recently proudly announced the launch of the new AGA-SA season.
With fresh new clubs, eager competitors, and international tournaments on the horizon, 2025 is shaping up to be an unforgettable year for the sport.
One of the most exciting developments is the expansion of AGA Northern Cape’s community, welcoming new clubs such as Orania Kudu Boogskiet Klub, Boshof Warriors, and Kimberley Archery Club.
The growth isn’t limited to clubs alone, as schools are also embracing archery. Boshof Combined School, ELCON School for the Disabled, Kimberley Islamic School (KIS), and Boys High Kimberley have all joined, ensuring that archery continues to develop across different age groups and abilities. This expansion highlights the inclusive nature of the sport, where individuals of all skill levels and backgrounds can find a place to thrive.
AGA-SA is committed to nurturing this passion for archery through nearly weekly inter-school and inter-club competitions. These events not only enhance personal skill development but also foster camaraderie among participants.
Furthermore, AGA-SA is dedicated to training archers and officials, ensuring high standards in range management, scoring, and media production at their events.
Archery Changing Lives
Dawid de Greeff, AGA-NC’s coordinator and a dedicated Basic Archery Instructor Trainer, has seen firsthand the transformative power of archery.
In November and December, he welcomed three young archers from the same family to the Boshof Warriors Archery Club. All three were diagnosed with ADHD, a condition that can present challenges in concentration and discipline. However, through archery, these young athletes found a way to focus, excel, and thrive.
The two youngest siblings participated in their first competitions of the year and proudly earned medals, proving that archery is more than just a sport – it’s a tool for personal growth.
Alongside Wilhelm Jacobs, who is based in Orania, Dawid plays a key role in supporting archers and instructors throughout the Northern Cape. This Saturday, February 15, he will lead the first Basic Archery Instructor Training course of 2025 at Boshof Combined School.
Demonstrating his commitment to developing the sport, Dawid will also be donating equipment to the school, ensuring that students have access to the resources they need to succeed. This training marks the start of an exciting year filled with competitions, development programmes, and a continued emphasis on safety within the sport.
A Global Stage for Northern Cape Archers
More exciting news is that this year, AGA-NC archers will step onto the international stage, with some of them representing South Africa at the prestigious AGA Federation World Tournament in Namibia.
This major event will bring together top archers from Canada, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. In addition, the AGA-SA National Tournament will be held in Limpopo later this year, offering another thrilling opportunity for archers to showcase their skills.
AGA-NC is proud to contribute 27% of the AGA-SA National Development Team, with 16 of South Africa’s top archers selected for this category.
The Northern Cape archers set to compete in the AGA-SA World Tournament in July are: Dawid de Greeff (Adult and AGA-SA National Development Archery team coach), Hezekiah Lodewyk (Grade 7, Homevale Primary School), Athrah Arnold (Grade 8, Girls High Kimberley), Otniël van Wyk (Grade 8, Adamantia High School), Fathima Mustapha (Grade 9, Kimberley Girls High School)
Their participation in these tournaments is not just an achievement for the individuals but a testament to the strength and progress of archery in the Northern Cape.
Unlocking Bow-Tential
AGA-SA is committed to making archery accessible to everyone in South Africa and across the continent. Whether you're a student, homeschooler, or adult between the ages of 7 and 75+, there’s a place for you in archery.
It’s more than just a sport – it’s a journey of discipline, focus, and personal achievement.
However, it has to be emphasised that none of this growth would be possible without the generous support of sponsors who continue to invest in the future of the sport.
Speaking to the DFAm AGA-SA took the opportunity to extend heartfelt gratitude to EKAPA Mine, the Northern Cape Sports and Recreation Authority, NCEDA, the Northern Cape Tourism Authority, NTT Motor Group, MANZI Water Kimberley, and private donors who have made significant contributions.
According to the organisation, the support of these sponsors is essential in preparing archers for the World Tournament in Namibia this July, as well as the highly anticipated World Tournament in Canada in 2027.
