Varsity College’s on-form goalkeeper, Amarachi Agbai was selected the University Sports South Africa (USSA) teams in 2023 and 2024 where she helped them win against Zimbabwe in the finals in Pretoria earlier this month. She was also selected for the Western Province Senior Team, as well as being named the IIE’s Varsity College Cape Town Sports Woman of the Year in 2023.
Amarachi Agbai, of Varsity College in Newlands, represented South African University and College Netball at the 21st Confederation of University and College Sports Associations (CUCSA) Games at the Tshwane University of Technology earlier this month.
Agbai’s outstanding performance on the netball court helped the South African team to be crowned the overall champions after beating Zimbabwe 96-30 in the grand finale.
On the way to the final, the team was impressive with wins against Botswana 75-10, Zimbabwe 86-16, Malawi 93-27 and Zambia 92-30, respectively.
The on-form goalkeeper’s notable achievements include being selected back-to-back for the University Sports South Africa (USSA) teams in 2023 and 2024, being chosen for the Western Province Senior Team, and being named the IIE’s Varsity College Cape Town Sports Woman of the Year in 2023.
Agbai said representing South Africa at the CUCSA games was an honour and a great privilege.
“The support from my team and coaches has been amazing and I would not be able to accomplish all that I have accomplished without them. It is an amazing feeling to know that my hard work and contribution to the team is acknowledged and appreciated,” she said.
