Excellence still the standard for Kumgang Taekwondo Club

The Kumgang Taekwondo Club recently hosted another of its highly-anticipated grading ceremonies at its stronghold on the Kimberley Big Hole Mine Museum grounds.

The club, founded back in 1999, has served as a nurturing ground for martial arts enthusiasts, fostering a community of dedicated practitioners over the years. This year’s grading ceremony played host to the participation of 12 practitioners, each showcasing their skills and dedication to the art form.

The atmosphere was intense as the club has become synonymous with excellence in the realm of Korean martial arts, and this grading event was a testament to this enduring legacy.

Among the highlights of the ceremony were the promotions of two practitioners to the coveted rank of black belt, Joelle Anderson and Samuel de Clerk received the nod of approval, adding to the club’s impressive tally of 18 black belts. This is no easy feat as the journey to achieving a black belt is a testament to years of dedication, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the craft.

In addition to welcoming new black belts, the club also proudly introduced two new instructors, Barbra-Ann de Bruin and Tristin Snyders. The pair’s expertise and passion for Taekwondo will undoubtedly enrich the training experience for all members of the club.

As for what lies ahead, the Kumgang Taekwondo Club is gearing up for a series of competitions scheduled for later this year, with the prestigious Diamond Open slated for August right here in Kimberley. This and other competitions serve as a platform for practitioners to test their skills, showcase their talent, and uphold the values of sportsmanship and camaraderie that takes years of practice to attain.

Reflecting on the success of the recent grading ceremony, Kumgang Taekwondo Club Instructor, 6th Dan Sabunim Thomas du Plessis, expressed immense pride in the achievements of the students.

“We are incredibly proud of all our students, their hard work, and the indomitable spirit they displayed during the grading ceremony,” said Sabunim Du Plessis. “Their dedication serves as an inspiration to us all, and we look forward to continuing our journey of excellence together.”
