Residents of Tamboerskloof have once again been urged to not leave valuable items in their parked cars at night.
The warning comes after the arrest of a suspect who was interrupted while stealing items out of a parked car in the area this week.
“One of our armed response officers was on patrol in the suburb early on Wednesday morning, when he monitored a radio message on the WatchCom network about a suspicious person noticed in St Michaels Road,” said the district manager at Fidelity ADT, Jade Hanning.
Mr Hanning said one officer made his way to the area. It was when he drove down Regent Circus that he noticed a parked car with its interior light on, which raised his suspicions. He stopped to investigate.
The officer found a man inside the car. At the same time, a resident at one of the nearby homes walked outside and confirmed to the officer that the parked car was his, and that he did not give anyone permission to be inside the vehicle.
“The suspect was searched, and a cellphone and pair of sunglasses were found in his possession. Both items were positively identified as belonging to the resident,” he said
The suspect was apprehended and handed over into police custody on a charge of theft out of a motor vehicle.
