Cape Town Central police arrested two men who robbed a French tourist in Chiappini Bo-Kaap.
According to the sector manager, Constable Louis Texeira, they live in the Kraal in Bo-Kaap.
He said they threatened the victim with a knife and ran off with her cellphone and other belongings.
Constable Texeira said the incident happened on Wednesday last week after they arrested a couple, also from the Kraal who broke into someone’s house in the area.
The two men, he said, had sold the phone to someone in the same area and the police arrested them on Friday afternoon and recovered the victim’s belongings.
Constable Texeira said crime levels in the area had been relatively low in the past few months but were now on the increase.
On Friday October 18, Cape Town Central Police arrested a 25-year-old man for common robbery in connection with an incident at Strand Street.
A woman had been walking with her boyfriend at De Waterkant and Hudson Street when an unknown man came from behind and grabbed her bag and ran away. She notified nearby security officers who gave chase and apprehended the man who was subsequently handed over to police.
