Box cart race gives Bo-Kaap wings

Fans lined the raceway course in Bo-Kaap.

Red Bull’s box cart racing event took place in Bo-Kaap on Sunday November 6, with the downhill race starting on Yusuf Drive and finishing at the intersection of Wale and Rose Streets. Fifty-seven teams took part.

There was a chariot but it wasn’t on fire.

Sometimes a box cart needed a push.

The need for speed as a can zips past spectators.

Safety first, the baby was buckled in.

There were thousands of people at the event.

The finish line was buzzing.

Organisers ensured there was visible signage so that spectators knew where everything was.
