A networking event, co-ordinated by Jewel Harris, chairperson of the South African Council of Shopping Centres (SACSC), was held at the Fifteen on Orange Hotel in Cape Town on Wednesday July 27.
Entry to the event was one blanket, a person, for the Kidz2Kidz blanket drive.
The SACSC has supported the Kidz2Kidz blanket drive for the past three years and have held similar events every year to assist the charity.
A total of 155 blankets were collected. Ms Harris also donated a R5 000 reading corner, on behalf of SACSC, to a school in need and has challenged all corporate and retail companies to do the same.
September is literacy month and to improve the early learning literacy levels in schools across South Africa, Kidz2Kidz are building reading corners to go into schools at Grade R level.
Each book corner has 60 books in the mother tongue of the pupil and the corner includes a mat, cushions to sit on and a little reading bench. Reading corners can be branded by the company who donates them.
