A vegetation fire that broke out on Devil’s Peak has been contained, with authorities confirming that an investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the blaze.
South African National Parks (SANParks) Table Mountain National Park Fire Management deployed both ground firefighting crews and aerial resources after the fire was reported on Tuesday afternoon.
SANParks spokesperson Lauren Howard-Clayton said the blaze was brought under control shortly before 6pm, and mopping-up operations are continuing, with crews remaining on site to prevent any flare-ups.
She said the cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
Atlantic Sun reported on the fire in the Devil’s Peak area yesterday, Tuesday, January 27, prompting concern among residents and authorities amid ongoing high fire danger conditions.
Authorities have not ruled out human involvement, and residents are urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity immediately.
Officials have again stressed that fire season remains a critical period, with dry and windy conditions significantly increasing the risk of rapid fire spread.
Members of the public are advised to avoid affected areas while investigations continue.
SANParks has reiterated its warning that open flames are strictly prohibited in Table Mountain National Park and that contraventions could result in legal action.
