Table Mountain Aerial Cableway celebrates 33 millionth visitor this festive season

Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) kicked off the December festive season by welcoming its 33 millionth visitor on Monday, December 15.

Visitors have been using the cable cars since 1929 to reach the top of Table Mountain.  

Thabiso Letsoalofrom Limpopo was surprised with a curated gift hamper and special recognition from the TMACC team upon arrival at the lower cable station. He and his partner,Ofentse Huma, were preparing to board the cable car when the milestone was announced. 

They said they were visiting Cape Town for thesecond time, making the moment even more memorable. 

“It was such a lovely experience, the shock and thrill of the surprise made it even more special,” said Mr Letsoalo.

“We are having a great time, and it’s definitely one of those memories we’ll keep forever. Cape Town is just different and so beautiful compared to where we’re from, which is why we keep coming back.” 

Reaching 33 million visitors since the start of operations in 1929 is "incredible for TMACC", said managing director Wahida Parker.

“Welcoming both our 32 and 33 millionth visitors in the same year is truly remarkable. Achieving this milestone in the same month that our Twelve Apostles Terrace was recognised as Africa’s Best MICE Event Venue amplifies the significance of this moment for us," she said.

The celebration comes during one of TMACC’s busiest seasons, Ms Parker said, encouraging those who plan to visit this holiday season to buy tickets and save.

Peak operating times are as follows: December 1 – January 31: the first cable car up is at 8am, the last cable car up is at 8pm, and the last cable car down is at 9pm. 

Visitors are urged to make use of the free 'Park & Ride' shuttle service that runs from the Lower Tafelberg Road parking lot to the lower station.
