Safety alert: Avoid Camps Bay hiking trails due to armed suspects

The South African National Parks (SANParks) rangers and security forces, supported by drones, are searching for three armed suspects above Camps Bay.

South African National Parks (SANParks) has issued a safety alert advising all hikers to avoid the Camps Bay hiking trails until further notice.

This follows an elderly man being attacked and a Hout Bay house being robbed at about 3 am today, Friday, December 12. 

An active search operation is underway in the area above Camps Bay for three armed men. 

Rangers and security forces, supported by drones, are currently searching the area.

SANParks spokesman JP Louw said: “For your safety, please stay away from the trails.”Updates will be provided as soon as authorities declare the area safe. “Prioritise your safety and stay alert,” he said.

Meanwhile, police spokeswoman Constable Ndakhe Gwala confirmed that they were investigating a case of house robbery in Hout Bay.

"An 85-year-old male victim suffered bruises and open cuts during the incident," she said.

The three men broke into the house and stole a cell phone and a firearm. "The investigation is ongoing," said Constable Gwala.
