At the 60th annual Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards held at the Cape Town Stadium on Sunday March 23, two Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy (LAMTA) productions won the coveted accolade with Sylvaine Strike taking Best Director for Spring Awakening and Emily Child winning Best Lead Actress in a Play for A Streetcar Named Desire.
LAMTA graduate Leah Mari scooped the Best Lead Actress in a Musical prize for her role as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady that was directed by Steven Stead with LAMTA’s Anton Luitingh as resident director. Forty-nine plays, musicals and music theatre shows were eligible for the 23 competitive categories, with LAMTA productions receiving a total of nine nominations.
