Professionals Unity of South Africa (PROFSA) and Operation Dudula have called on AfriForum to stop spreading false claims about South Africa, following the organisation's repeated assertions that white farmers are being murdered in large numbers and that the government is seizing land.
PROFSA is an organisation that aims to unite professionals from various sectors in South Africa. Its focus is on representing and advancing the interests of professionals across different industries.
AfriForum has been engaged in a campaign for several years to raise awareness about what they deem "unfair treatment" of Afrikaners in the country, despite research and official statistics showing white Afrikaners live a largely privileged life compared to black South Africans.
Their "misinformation" campaign finally gained traction this year as US President Donald Trump cut aid to South Africa over what he also viewed as "treating certain classes of people very badly" in South Africa.
The group also recently paid a visit to the US to meet senior representatives of the Trump administration to "fight for the interests of Afrikaners".
Their visit to the White House has sparked widespread condemnation from various political parties and ordinary people, with some even calling for the organisation to be charged with treason.
The Hawks confirmed on Monday, that four high treason dockets have been opened, however, the group has insisted that it was not losing any sleep over the looming potential charges.
In join press briefing on Monday, PROFSA and Dudula slammed AfriForum and demanded that they stop peddling lies.
"AfriForum went to a foreign state to peddle lies that as South Africans, we are marginalising the Afrikaners, we believe that is pure lies intended to derail the gains of democracy," said Professionals Unity South Africa's Mashudu Tshivase.
"We say to AfriForum stop peddling lies about our country, we want to build a united and prosperous South Africa. We know our challenges and that is why as a non-governmental organisation, which has no political influence, we encourage all South African to come together so that we build this beautiful land together."
President Cyril Ramaphosa has also accused the group of sowing division in the country following their visit to the US.
