SOL PLAATJE University (SPU) officially welcomed 2,273 new students at the Vice-Chancellor’s welcoming ceremony on February 15.
The director for institutional advancement in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Kashini Maistry, said on Tuesday that students had completed a two-week orientation programme designed to familiarise them with campus life, academic expectations, and available support services.
“A candle-lighting ceremony was held to symbolise the passing on of knowledge and wisdom,” she added.
Vice-chancellor and principal Professor Andrew Crouch encouraged students to develop the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to make a meaningful impact.
Student representative council (SRC) president Nonofo Quinton Oliphant reassured students that no one would be left behind.
He encouraged them to embrace unity, respect, ubuntu, humility, and tolerance, to take up space confidently, and to celebrate diversity.
