The Drakenstein Municipality proudly announced the arrival of the latest addition to their fire-fighting fleet, a new fire engine dubbed the Isuzi, received by the Drakentein Fire and Rescue Services. Delivering the keynote address at the hand-over ceremony is Drakenstein Municipality Executive Mayor Stephen Korabie. The purchase of the new fire engine, valued at R2.9 million, was made possible through a R985 000 grant the municipality received from the Western Cape Government, which made it possible for the municipality to co-fund Isuzi.Although the Isuzi fire engine is smaller than the rest of the fleet trucks, the municipality says her robust built and 4x4 drive feature will enable firefighters to access rough terrain much quicker than with the larger fire engines.
