The 2nd Hout Bay Sea Scouts meerkats learned about cultivation when they visited Hout Bay’s community vegetable garden, Love in a Bowl, on Friday November 29.
The meerkats planted seedlings and harvested carrots as well as a giant turnip, said group spokesperson Lee van Zyl.
“I found the composting part very interesting, and I liked seeing the microscopic worms inside the soil. It was easy to learn about it because I just dug in. I also loved the big turnip I picked,” said meerkat Clayton Price.
Meerkat, Jamie Edwards said: “Learning how to garden was really fun and easy. It was hilarious when Clayton picked up the worms. It was so funny. I enjoyed learning about plants and walking on the farm.”
