A Kuils River woman is celebrating after her self-publishing business won second place at the Bellville Business Expo last week.
Haroldene Tshienda started Shofar Books in 2015 as Tshienda Publications but the name was changed in August last year. It offers creative writing training and editing services among other things.
“I teach you how to write for the right target market and then publish your work. We design your cover, we design your text, and then we publish it,” she said.
In May last year, the company registered as a book distributor.
Her prize included training workshops which she hopes will show her how to improve her business.
She said businesses should consider buying her clients' books to sell them in their stores.
“Books don't need to be sold just in bookshops. Any other business owner who has space, can sell books,” she said, adding that there were plans to steer her business towards traditional publishing.
