Susan Francis Apolles, of Ottery, celebrated her centenary, on Tuesday August 27, at the Lansdowne Moravian Church. According to her daughter, Adolphine Balie, a prayer meeting, accompanied by the church brass band, was led by the youngest of her nine children, Susan Apolles Junior, a Moravian minister. Ms Apolles also has 27 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. On Saturday August 31, she celebrated the special occasion with family and friends at the De Wet Road multi-purpose hall in Ottery. Ms Balie said her mother had been a teacher for most of her life and an active member of her church. She is pictured here with her family.
