There were no injuries after a fire started at a semi-detached house in Antrim Road, Three Anchor Bay, on Monday, August 19.
Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson for the City’s Fire and Rescue Service, says they got a call reporting a house fire at 2.50pm.
Mr Carelse says firefighters from Sea Point, Roeland Street, Hout Bay, Goodwood, and Salt River fire stations were dispatched to the area.
“The fire originated in the roof gap of the centre of three semi-detached homes. It appears that all three properties were affected and a section of the roof collapsed on a firefighter. The fire was extinguished at 5.20pm. It appears to have started while workers were applying bitumen to the roof, using a blowtorch,” he said.
No casualties or injuries were reported.
In a separate incident, Metro Police spokesperson Ruth Solomons said the body of a female was found on the quarry grounds off Strand Street.
“The City’s Metro Police Department was informed late yesterday afternoon that a body had been found among the rocks in the quarry. Officers responded, and found the body of an unknown person. They immediately cordoned off the scene and informed SAPS who took over the scene on their arrival,” said Ms Solomons.
Cape Town Central police has registered an inquest for investigation. A SAPS statement said the body was discovered by one of the youths playing on the field. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
