People in the city make their mark

People who voted at the Cape Town Civic Centre in the CBD queued for hours as they came out in their numbers to vote in the national elections on Wednesday May 29. The ANC came in first with 40.18% votes nationally, followed by the DA with 21.81% and MK with 14.58%.The DA won the Western Cape with 53.41% of the vote, the ANC got 19.79% and the PA came in third with 7.84%.

Thabang Madia and Reabetswe Molebatsi from District Six after they cast their votes. Mr Madia said this was his first time voting. “The last time I was in a queue was in 1998 with my dad. I remember he had me on his shoulders. I came here to make a difference because what happens in the country is affecting me directly. I want to take part so I can help change the country for the better.”

Rohan Burger from Worcester, who is studying in the city centre said it was time for someone new to govern the country. “It's been 30 years of nothing and we want some change."
