Thousands of people from around Cape Town joined Bo-Kaap locals in the Muharram march, arranged by the Boorhanol Islamic Movement, on Sunday, to celebrate the start of the Islamic New Year. Masturah Adams, the leader of social development for the Boorhanol Islamic Movement, said the march was a tribute to madressa teachers. “This is the 10th year we are hosting the march, and it has once again been a tremendous success,” she said.

There was traditional food and entertainment at the Bo-Kaap Cultural Hub.
Young and old, men and women, strolled to the various historical points in Bo-Kaap.
The skies were grey, but the Bo-Kaap houses added a splash of colour to the festivities.
People gathered at the Schotsche Kloof Primary School for a break.
