Last weekend, Sea Point SAPS arrested several people for driving while intoxicated and possessing narcotics.
According to Captain Cyril Dicks, Sea Point SAPS head: corporate communication, members involved in weekend operations clamped down on the drug trade, arresting eight people for possession of mandrax, tik, and cocaine.
Captain Dicks said people who were just strolling along the roads of the greater Sea Point policing area, were searched at random when acting suspiciously. “Others were arrested during vehicle check-points he said.
Captain Dicks said during a vehicle check-point in High Level Road on Saturday November 5, SAPS pulled over random vehicles and discovered drugs during a vehicle search.
“During the search a little bag was found and opened and five (suspected) mandrax tablets were found, including some crystal-like substance resembling tik (methamphetamine). The 23-year-old male was arrested for being in possession of drugs and charged accordingly,” he said.
In a separate operation with Metro police, four men, aged 26 to 42, were arrested while under the influence of alcohol.
