Two men were held up at knife point for two hours in a backpackers room in Long Street, Cape Town.
Cape Town Central police offers arrested a 25-year-old man and 29-year-old woman in connection with a robbery at a Long Street backpackers on Thursday March 11.
During the incident two men were robbed of their cellphones and cash.
Police officers were conducting routine patrols when they were informed that a Cape Town Central Improvement District security officer had apprehended the suspects.
It is alleged that the two victims had been approached and held up inside the backpackers room by two knife-wielding men and one woman, for two hours.
The attackers threatened them and demanded they hand over R1 500 in cash R1500 and also electronically transferred another R1 700 using one of the victims’ cellphones. The two suspects then left the building and one victim managed to alert a CCID security office at the corner of Long Street and Buitensingel.
The security officer apprehended one man and the woman while the other man fled the scene in the backpacker’s bakkie. The suspect is known to police but still is at large.
When police officers searched the room, they found of the knives used during the robbery, as well as a cellphone which had been hidden in the room.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday March 10, a 28-year old man was arrested for theft out of a motor vehicle at Hillside Road, Tamboerskloof; and on the same day, in Van Der Meulen Street, Bo-Kaap, a 24-year-old man was arrested for being possession of car breaking implements.
