Two men were arrested for sale of alcohol
A 32-year-old Sea Point resident was arrested for selling alcohol on Buitengrancht Street on Friday, January 22.
On the same day, a 37-year-old man was also arrested in Van Der Meulen Street, Bo-Kaap for the sale of alcohol which is prohibited during level 3 lockdown regulations.
Cape Town Central police spokesperson, Captain Ezra October, said they received information from the members of the public that both suspects were selling alcohol in different locations.
“We have been dealing with this since the start of the adjusted level 3 and people know the sale of alcohol is banned but we from time to time, we receive such calls from the members of the community,” he said.
This comes two weeks after a 41-year-old club manager in De Waterkant was arrested for selling alcohol. The police received tip-offs from the public and nearby residents.
The liquor was confiscated and the manager was detained.
Captain October added that the crime Prevention Unit members in partnership with security partners determination and efforts to clean the streets of City Centre Policing Precinct continue to yield desired successes.
A total of 17 arrests for offences under the drugs and drug trafficking act were made for possession of drugs with an estimated street value R5000 in Lower long, Adderley, Strand, Wale, Waterkant, Sir Lowry, and Commercial streets, on Saturday, January 23.
At the corner of Union and Krynauw streets, Gardens, a 30-year-old man was arrested for attempted theft out motor vehicle and malicious damage to property.
