African creators dazzle at the premiere of 'Wicked' in London
American musical fantasy film “Wicked” is out and when it premiered in London, African creators were among the attendees.
The talented creators who attended the “Wicked” premiere include South Africa’s Tricia Mpisi, Banele Ndaba and Kayla Kim Meiring who represented in style.
Mpisi, who wore a Nigerian-inspired outfit, was excited to meet Cynthia Erivo and Arian Grande, who lead in the film.
“Pinch me so I know it’s real!!!@cynthiaerivo @arianagrande have to be some of the sweetest ladies I’ve ever met 🥹🩷 OMG, my year is made!!!! What is happening to my life? Only God can do this,” she wrote on Instagram.
Ndaba, popularly known as Moghelingz, dazzled in a short, black sheer gown.

Meiring, who wore a custom Miano Designs pink skirt and red corset, was grateful that her red carpet debut was an international one.
“Imagine my first carpet event is international. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that I would be awarded the opportunity to attend the premiere of @wickedmovie @universalpicturesuk @tiktokcreators @tiktok @tiktok_southafrica I feel blessed.
“I can’t wait to share the rest of the content with my community online. My hunays! Know this … I keep pinching myself because it honestly still feels so surreal! God did it again,” she said.
Other African creators who attended the premiere to the grow influence of African voices in entertainment include Azziad Nasienya (Kenya), Claire Wamboi (Kenya), Grace Amaku (Nigeria, based in the US), Hilda Effiong Bassey (Nigeria), Iremide Makinde (Nigeria) and Pelumi Olawuni (Nigeria).
Based on the generation-defining blockbuster stage musical, “Wicked” follows the untold story of the witches of Oz and stars Emmy, Grammy and Tony-winning a-nominated powerhouse Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power.
