Meet Lesego Pitso, this 23-year-old has developed her candle-making artistry from her love for fragrances, which shaped the vision for her business, “KandlesbyLP”.
The Rustenburg-born businesswoman is the founder of “KandlesbyLP,” her own passion-driven business. Since its humble beginnings to its core values of sustainability and wellness, Pitso has opened up to IOL about what makes "KandlesbyLP" truly special.
“I drew inspiration from nature, travel, and personal experiences,” Pitso said, reflecting on the early days of her business.
She invested time in learning about fragrance composition and experimenting with essential oils and scent blends to create signature scents that bring her vision to life.

For the 23-year-old entrepreneur, each fragrance tells a story, inspired by different moments and places in her life. Her love for fragrances and artistry shines through in every aspect of her business.
When it comes to designing new candles, Pitso’s creative process is intentional. Her candles are designed to evoke specific moods, atmospheres, or memories.
She tells IOL more about her creative process when designing a new candle.
“I start by choosing a theme that resonates with a specific mood, atmosphere, daily experiences or childhood memories,” she explained.
She adds that once a theme is established, she brainstorms potential fragrance notes, considering how different scents blend together and how they can complement the chosen mood.
"Throughout this process, the aim is to create a sensory experience that not only smells good but also resonates deeply with those who encounter it," she said.
Sustainability and wellness are at the forefront of KandlesbyLP's values. Pitso has emphasised the importance of minimising waste and using eco-friendly production methods.
”I focus on various aspects of the candle-making process to ensure these values are reflected in our products," she said.
When asked what advice she would give others who are looking into turning their passions into successful businesses as a young entrepreneur, Pitso’s valuable advice is to be prepared for a lot of rejection, and to not be discouraged if things don't go as planned initially.
“It's a niche business, have enough funds for marketing, and be willing to learn and adapt as you go,” she adds.
