Can you imagine getting a child excited about receiving an awesome toy and then it gets taken away from them?
That’s what happened to eight little ones who attended a seven-year-old’s birthday party where they were spoiled with a trip to Build-A-Bear.
The plan for the day was that the kids would get together at a food court in a mall before heading to the Build-A-Bear store.
Afterward, they would all meet up at the birthday girl’s house for cake and ice cream.
One of the birthday guest’s aunt took to TikTok to share what happened on the day of the party since she was the one who took the little girl to the birthday party.
She said that the mother of the birthday girl did not book a party through Build-A-Bear which means that the eight kids were simply treated as regular shoppers.
Before they got to the store the aunt told her niece that she could keep the bear simple but that she would pay for any other accessories for the bear.
“Everything is good. The mom pays for everything. Whatever extra I bought on my own” says the aunt.
They then leave the store, take a picture, and then the mother of the birthday girl announces, “Okay, thank you everyone. Now if you can hand over your bear to Sarah (the birthday girl). Thank you so much for building a personal bear so that Sarah can remember you by.”
At that point, the aunt was shocked that all the children had to hand over the bears they had created.
Sarah’s mom then told everyone that they will meet at their house where the kids will be receiving goodie bags.
“We get to the house where we hand the birthday mom Sarah’s gift. We sing happy birthday. Have birthday cake. Have ice-cream. Then it was game time. What is game time when we were all watching Sarah play with all her other animals that the kids just made,” the aunt continues.
She then tapped the mom and said that she might have misunderstood the invitation because it said that the kids will be able to build a bear.
“Yes. Build a bear for Sarah to keep,” the mom said.
She then explained that because she thought that her niece was going to keep the bear she spent an extra $35 on accessories.
“I can look into getting that back for you,” was the mom’s response.
They left soon after that and other moms left as well.
This video soon went viral on TikTok with over 11 million views.
More than 37,000 people responded with most people just as shocked as the aunt was.
“That mom single handedly ended all of the daughter’s friendships,” commented one viewer.
Another shared they thought the invite should have said, “No gifts necessary, the kids will be building a bear for Sarah to take home the bears. Can be made at the parents' expenses.”
“The birthday girl’s mom was so wrong for that and I bet every kid was heartbroken because of that situation,” wrote another.
“What is the point of build a bear if you can’t keep what you created? Her mom made a sweatshop,” commented another.
