LANDED A NEW GIG: Veteran Bobby Brown
Veteran radio personality and Daily Voice columnist Bobby Brown will be back on the air soon, this time as host of the Magic 828 AM breakfast show.
Bobby, who was a popular voice in the mornings on Smile FM for several years, left the station in April. Speaking to IOL, he shared his excitement about his upcoming venture.
Magic 828, which is the only other commercial radio station on the AM band besides CapeTalk, reached out to Bobby soon after his Smile FM exit.
“We started talking and negotiating. Magic is a small station and on the AM band. The AM sound is something to get used to, but this will be countered with great content,” he explained.
Apart from the music, Bobby has a few surprises up his sleeve, including daily prizes such as load shedding hampers and a trip overseas.
He will also pick the brains of the most knowledgeable people in Cape Town to find out who really knows their city.
Graeme White currently hosts the Magic 828 breakfast show. Bobby will do it solo, and while he admits he is bietjie nervous, he said it is not new to him.
“Radio teams were only introduced about 10 years ago. I am familiar with a solo radio show, I am not necessarily fearful of that. Other shows have a group of voices, but this will be a strong focus on one voice, content and music,” he said.
White, who is also the programme and station manager, said Magic 828 are thrilled to welcome Bobby.
“He is a consummate professional who brings a wealth of experience, both on radio and television,” White said.
“We all look forward to making more magic with Bobby from Monday, July 3.”
