Hit Broadway musical Little Shop of Horrors will show at The Masque from Friday August 22 until Saturday September 6.

The cult classic features popular songs written by Howard Ashman with music by Alan Menken, such as Suddenly Seymour, Feed Me and Dentist.

Set in a struggling flower shop in a run-down neighbourhood, the story follows Seymour, a timid shop assistant who discovers a mysterious plant after a solar eclipse. He names it Audrey II, after his co-worker and secret crush. But the plant has a sinister secret—it feeds on human blood.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be presenting this iconic musical,” said programme manager of The Masque, Faeron Wheeler. “We have a phenomenal team in place to bring it to life."

Little Shop of Horrors is directed by Jeffrey Johnson from America, who is making his  South African debut as actor, choreographer and director with Little Shop of Horrors.

Musical direction is by John McGuiness, who has been involved in around 30 musicals in various roles, including musical director, pit musician, and performer.

“We want audiences to feel like they are seeing this iconic musical for the first time - again,” said Johnson. “Our production is a bit more 2025 -  a bit darker, a bit scarier and still a lot of fun.”

The Masque’s cast features Gregan Aherin as Seymour; Kay Mosiane as Audrey; Jeffrey Johnson as Audrey II; Ethan Wilton as Mr. Mushnik; Andrew Munnik as Orin and Claire Thomson, Rufaro Mvududu and Rachel Suttle as the Urchins.

Little Shop of Horrors is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International .
