Jazzart Dance Theatre will stage a show entitled Emerge from Friday October 18 to Saturday October 26 at the Artscape theatre.
The dance production reflects on the evolution of human relationships.
The season comprises works choreographed by Sifiso Kweyama, Ananda Fuchs and three company members, Vuyolwethu Nompetsheni, Tanzley Jooste and Darion Adams.
It is also the first showcase for the 15 young artists who began their three-year training programme in 2019. The students will be joined on stage by the 14 Jazzart-Chrysalis Leadership one-year dance programme trainees.
This production represents South Africa’s hope for the future, as portrayed by the students’ “emergence” into adulthood.
Jazzart’s artistic director, Sifiso Kweyama’s work entitled Solid interlaces the individual stories into one fluid and cohesive dance that progresses through life’s journey.
Elements of Enough was created by Ananda Fuchs and the trainees who embarked on a journey of exploring how a young person feels about their own power to create positive change.
The female dancers emerge from the shadows to take a standpoint for themselves in Vuyolwethu Nomphetsheni’s piece, Nur Nuur. The piece reflects the raw vulnerability of each woman, their pain to be heard and seen and their daily struggles to be taken seriously.
Darion Adam’s I Am Because You Are, speaks about the responsibility to pass on our knowledge gained through living life.
Lastly, Tanzley Jooste presents There, which gives a glimpse into the lives of 14 individuals who know nothing of one another until life and opportunity bring them together.
Tickets cost R80; R50 for students and pensioners; and R30 for block bookings to accommodate schools and outreach groups. Book through Computicket.
