The phenomenon of doppelgängers, individuals who eerily resemble each other despite no familial ties, has long captivated our imagination.
It's often said that each person has at least seven doppelgängers worldwide (insane in the membrane). While this makes for a fun conversation, scientific research suggests otherwise.
Studies indicate that the likelihood of two individuals sharing eight identical facial features is less than one in a trillion.
This rarity makes genuine look-alikes all the more fascinating. Interestingly, recent research has found that doppelgängers don't just share similar looks; they may also have genetic similarities.
A photo currently doing the rounds on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Reddit, and Threads shows a woman holding a winning Shoprite voucher. However, what sparked conversations was not the aforementioned topic, but rather her striking resemblance to Oprah Winfrey.
And listen, this isn’t one of those “if you squint really hard, maybe” situations. No. Sis really looks like Oprah. From the facial features to the warm smile, it left Mzansi’s social media in stitches and in awe.

This isn’t the first time South Africans have spotted celeb lookalikes in the wild.
Black Coffee once did a double take when he saw his Cape Town doppelgänger, Real Phumzo, at a club. Uncle Waffles and Seemah had fans convinced they were long-lost twins when they finally met in person.
Master KG’s lookalike from Botswana caused an online frenzy, while the resemblance between Masechaba Khumalo and Nomcebo Zikode had them admitting they could be sisters.
