Milnerton Players will bring a brand-new jukebox musical this spring titled The Long Way Home, written by musical director Tersia Harley and Hema Maskovitz.

The musical opens at the Milnerton Playhouse on Saturday, September 27, and runs until Saturday, October 11.

The production marks the directorial debut of Philippa van Ryneveld and stars Sechaba Makhoti alongside Nicola de Jager in the leading roles.

Described as a vibrant, South African work with international flair, the show promises to transport audiences across continents through music, memory, and emotion.

At the heart of the story is Alex, a young musician from Cape Town who leaves home in pursuit of fame and purpose. His journey takes him through the streets of Rio, into the heart of New Orleans, and beyond. Along the way, he faces heartbreak, betrayal, and longing, only to discover that sometimes it is the journey itself that defines us.

Ms Van Ryneveld says she is honoured to be entrusted with bringing the new production to life.

“The story is bold, it’s beautiful, and it carries a heartbeat that’s unmistakably ours. At its core, music pulses through every moment, grounding us in memory and rhythm - it is the heartbeat of our home, the sound of belonging.”

Blending a specially curated mix of familiar favourites with local flavour, The Long Way Home features a live band, new young talent, and contributions from local choirs and schools, she said.

The cast draws from diverse communities and performers making their stage debuts, creating what organisers describe as a celebration of heritage, music, and hope.

Performances take place on weekends only. Tickets can be booked at www.milnertonplayers.co.za or by emailing info@milnertonplayers.com.
