BMW’s new 100% recyclable car concept is the first of its kind in the automobile industry
BMW is bringing the possibilities of the future in automotive manufacturing to the fore.
As one of the most planet-harming economic sectors in the world, the automotive industry has seen a massive shift towards hybrid and electric vehicles in recent years.
Now, BMW is taking it one step further with their newly-revealed i Vision Circular.
Positioned as a car for 2040, the vehicle combines sustainability with the brand’s premium and luxurious touch. As the name suggests, the i Vision Circular will be designed using principles of the circular economy.
With this endeavour, BMW is aiming to be the “world’s most sustainable manufacturer in the individual premium mobility space.”
The i Vision circular was designed under the titles “RE:THINK,” “RE:DUCE,” “RE:USE,” and “RE:CYCLE. It will be made using recycled materials and materials that are 100% recyclable.
This will be achieved by utilising materials that have already completed a product life cycle, as well as using bio-based materials. In addition, the i Vision will be an electric vehicle that uses a 100% recyclable battery.
Under the RE:DUCE title, BMW has maintained its level of luxury while using innovative new processes.
There is no exterior paint, chrome, or interior leather trim, while signature design elements such as the car’s kidney grille is actually a digital interface that merges with the headlights. The vehicle badge is laser-etched while elements such as the steering wheel have been 3D-printed. For the tires, BMW have produced Vivid Blue Rubber, made from sustainably-cultivated natural rubber.
The BMW i Vision is the first of its kind in the luxury automotive industry, and paves the way for the future of sustainable mobility.
