Cape Town - Two associates of alleged underworld kingpin Nafiz Modack, have appeared in court after they were caught in possession of 30 grams of tik at the Western Cape High Court.
Ziyaad Poole, along with Moegamat Toufeeq ‘Bubbles’ Brown, appeared on drug charges in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Friday, after they were arrested by the Hawks while attending a trial last week.
Brown allegedly obtained the drugs from a lawyer in the court room before the lunch adjournment.
While searching the holding cells, police reportedly found the drugs in possession of the duo and discovered it was concealed in a container used for flu medication.
Parkar denied any involvement and withdrew from the case, saying the situation was untenable.
According to the charge sheet, the duo were found in possession of 30 grams of tik. The case was postponed to November 12 for Brown to appoint a lawyer to defend him.
Poole and Brown are currently held at Pollsmoor Prison due to the trial but it is unclear if they had planned to smuggle the drugs into prison.
According to a source, drugs are often smuggled from courts to prisons in the Western Cape and claims that in Pollsmoor, just one gram of tik could sell for between R300 to R400.
“A lot of bandits use their time at court to work. Those drugs are normally upped [inserted in the anus or vagina] and taken into prison. Inside, drugs go for double of what you pay on the outside.”
During the trial, Poole was outed as Modack’s alleged middleman.
Captain Edward du Plessis from the National Task Team told the court the bail application by Zane Kilian shone a light on Poole’s involvement, stating that on the day Charl Kinnear was shot and killed, Poole allegedly called Kilian and instructed him to destroy his phone.
Bank records shown to the court revealed Poole later received R5,000 from the Empire Investments account, which was labelled as “commission”.
Meanwhile, Brown was outed as the alleged leader of the Terrible West Siders gang in Woodstock and according to the State’s case, helped orchestrate the attempted hit on attorney William Booth while in prison.
He has also been at the centre of various dramas in the dock, which included a fist fight with one of his co-accused
