Gardens RFC women team scored their first points as the club since joining the Western Province Rugby Football Union.

Gardens Rugby Football Club (RFC) made a significant visit to Langa over the weekend, where their teams faced off against Busy Bees RFC.
In the main match of the day, Gardens' first team secured a comfortable 29-17 victory over the home side in their Super League C encounter, marking their fifth win in six outings.
Despite the impressive performance by Gardens, the celebrations hardly matched the atmosphere on the other pitch, where the women's teams were competing.
The Gardens women's side took on Busy Bees women, who, according to the records are a couple of stages above them in terms of competition.

However, as is often the case in sports, the game is not played on paper.
The massive celebration came from the Gardens side, albeit in a losing effort, when they scored their first try of the season.
Yes, despite the scoreline and previous results, the one try by Gardens was the reason for the eruption of noise in celebration.
And make no mistake, it was worth it for a new side still learning the ropes of the game. Piling on pressure against a much more fancied Bees side that has produced Springboks, crossing over the line means the side is on to something.

The side can officially say the women's side is now up and running.
Gardens is one of the few sides that have started to field a women's rugby side in the Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU).
Their women's side only started to take to the field a few weeks ago and the weekend try was only their first points ever.
If the jubilation from their first try is anything to go by, it is the first of many.
Simply observing the celebrations alone, the young ladies representing the side looked proud to be out on the field donning their red and black club colors.

This can set the side on major strides towards producing a competitive women's side. Their weekend game ended 24-5 in favor of Busy Bees.
On the men's side, Gardens moved to second on the log. Even though the side may not want to count their chickens too early, they are showing signs of a team set for promotion to Super League B.
Gardens helped themselves to a bonus point after running in five tries, led by half-back Jared Hamman's double.

The win took them to five points behind log-leading Young Peoples. It might be too early to make predictions, but early season results always prove valuable come the second half of the season. Gardens will be looking to keep the streak going when they take on Strand away from home.
