SK Walmers clinch dramatic victory over Union-Milnerton

SK Walmers celebrate their famous victory against Union-Milnerton at Theo Marais sports complex at the weekend.

A late penalty by Rayaan Solomons and a try by Ayyoob Davids in the dying moments secured SK Walmers their second victory of the Super League A season, defeating Union-Milnerton (Uni-Mil) 40–31 at Theo Marais Park. 

The Bo-Kaap-based side faced a formidable challenge against Union-Milnerton, a team with a strong home record. Despite the odds, SK Walmers not only clinched the win but also earned a bonus point by scoring five tries.

The match was intensely contested, with the scoreline close throughout the game. With less than three minutes remaining, SK Walmers were only up by a single point as Uni-Mil tried hard to snatch the win.  

However, they were awarded a penalty, which Solomons calmly converted to give the visitors a four-point lead. Uni-Mil had an opportunity to respond, but barely a minute later, SK Walmers regained possession. Davids sprinted down the field and dived under the posts after an intercept, sealing the victory with a try that extended their lead to 40–31.

This win marks a significant achievement for SK Walmers, who will look to have a longer stay in the Super League A by collecting points as early as possible. Their performance against Uni-Mil demonstrates their determination to remain in the top division with the best the club rugby has to offer. 

The victory also boosts their morale ahead of their next match against the tough students of UCT.
