In the past few months, an increase of fraud-related cases were reported to Camps Bay SAPS.
In the majority of these fraud cases, the modus operandi were the same. I would like to make the residents of Camps Bay, especially our senior residents, aware of this type of fraud cases reported.
On numerous occasions, the complainant will receive a phone call, the person on the other side will introduce himself/herself as an investigator/employee of a bank fraud department, and that they noticed fraudulent transactions on the complainants account.
They will request the complainant to follow certain “Links” to stop these fraudulent transactions.
When the complainant continue with the “prompt Links”, they will then be deprived of their money out of their respective bank accounts.
In most instances, these fraudsters target elderly persons. Residents of Camps Bay are cautioned not to entertain these type of scam phone calls.
Rather end the phone call and visit your nearest bank, or contact your bank’s fraud line for further assistance. Do not give any of your personal particulars over the telephone to strangers.
