City announces road closures for Gun Run weekend

Prepare for road closures during the OUTsurance Gun Run weekend

The 31st OUTsurance Gun Run takes place this weekend

More than 18,000 athletes are expected across the trail run, 10km, 5km fun runs, and the half marathon on Saturday, September 13, and Sunday, September 14.

In a statement sent by the City of Cape Town, they advised residents and motorists of road closures and traffic impacts.

On Saturday, September 13, the shorter distance races start from Fritz Sonnenberg Road outside DHL Stadium, following the Atlantic coastline through Mouille Point and Sea Point before finishing at Green Point Common Fields.

The 17km trail run begins at Van Riebeeck Park, traverses Table Mountain’s slopes and Signal Hill, and also ends at Green Point Common Fields.

On Sunday, 14 September, the 21,1km half marathon will take runners through Green Point, De Waterkant, Sea Point, Camps Bay, and Clifton.

Mayco member for Safety and Security JP Smith said the City has worked closely with organisers to ensure a safe and well-managed event, balancing resident access with runner safety.

Road closures

  • Saturday: Traffic impacts in Green Point, Mouille Point, and Sea Point.
  • Sunday: Major closures in Green Point, De Waterkant, Sea Point, Camps Bay, and Clifton from 5am  to 11am
  • Affected roads include Alfred Street (Green Point), Beach Road (Sea Point), Clarens Road (Sea Point), Kloof Road, and Victoria Road (Camps Bay).

Race schedule

  • Saturday:  17km Trail Run at  Van Riebeeck Park at 7am
  • Saturday:10km Run/Walk at Fritz Sonnenberg Road at 7:30
  • Saturday:5km Fun Run at  Fritz Sonnenberg Road at 8am
  • Saturday: 5km Pet Walk at Fritz Sonnenberg Road at 8.10am
  • Sunday: 21,1km half marathon at Fritz Sonnenberg Road at 6:30am
