Cableway charity challenge

The Cableway Charity Challenge is scheduled to take place on Saturday May 10, and the hosts and organisers, Table Mountain Aerial Cableway (TMACC), is encouraging residents to take part by cheering on participants, donating to the cause and enjoying a day on Table Mountain.

On the day of the Cableway Charity Challenge, individual athletes, schools and corporate teams will hike Platteklip Gorge as many times as possible, between sunrise and sunset, to raise funds for four beneficiaries: Ubuntu Football in Masiphumelele; Funda Kunye in Hout Bay; Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS) and Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR).

Since its inception in 2009, the challenge has raised millions for local charities. This year, the goal is to reach R1 million on the day. 

"The Cableway Charity Challenge is a highlight on the city’s trail running calendar. We are proud to host this incredible initiative,” said executive director at TMACC, Selma Hercules.

"It is inspiring to see participants push themselves for a good cause, and we encourage the public to join us in cheering them on. Once again, we are excited to have our teams taking part in the corporate challenge, as we do each year, showing our commitment not just as hosts, but as active participants in making a difference."

The public can support the event by pledging funds to a participant of the challenge, making a general donation, or simply joining in the excitement on the day by coming to the mountain on the day to cheer on climbers; or taking the cable car to the summit and enjoy the walking trails while supporting participants

Visitors to Table Mountain are encouraged to park and ride - park at the Lower Tafelberg Road parking area and take the free shuttle bus to the Lower Station.

The Cableway Charity Challenge is open to everyone, from experienced athletes to first-time hikers.
