The Premier League is just about over

So with Liverpool now sitting with a comfortable 15-point gap at the top of the English Premier League, having played a game more, I think it's safe to say it's over.

Manchester United threw the kitchen sink at it on the weekend when they hosted title contenders, Arsenal, who have proven to be the worst of them all.

This is not the first time this small club finds itself in a big situation like this, with an actual chance to walk away with what is regarded as the World's best league.

Every season, this small club starts off the season in poll position due to the fact that the league is laid out in alphabetical order - Arsenal starting with A gives them the edge from the start.

But almost every season, they have a few cracking games early on, and then fans dream a bit too big. Suddenly they are winning the league and will turn heads, but just as quick as those dreams started, they quickly turn into a nightmare.

Mikel Arteta has probably had it the easiest out of all managers out there, with the club showing patience and pride in this mediocre coach that I still believe was lucky to fall into this position.

Let's not forget - Arteta took over Arsenal after having sat as Pep Guardiola's assistant at Manchester City - with no real experience.

But because he represented this small club from London, having hardly done anything spectacular in his playing days, he was suddenly best suited to take over a team once called "The Invincibles".

To be honest, he has turned them from invincible to invisible, as trophies have dried up and Arsenal have become known for only finishing in decent positions.

What get's to GoalMOUTH is their deluded fans, talking about how they have improved and blaming everything other than their coach, who mind you, made more of an impact while playing for Everton - that is the Mikel Arteta we remember - ripping it up with players like Cahill, Tim Howard and obviously, one of Africa's finest - our very own Steven Pienaar.

Mikel Arteta could only secure a draw at Old Trafford against a poor Manchester United team trying to stay away from the relegation zone.

Now we have to be really honest, as in recent times, managers have lasted only a few months without having won anything and there were even managers who won significant things, but still got the sack.

What is holding Arteta at this club for so long and why does he get this long to be a success?

Ruben Amorim was asked the question straight and said that he would not have as much time as the failing Arsenal boss.

The owners not giving much of a budget to work with should be a very good indication that Arteta and the owners are not seeing eye to eye, but they continue to stick with their man.

Now let's address the team about to win their second title in 33 years, the first one having been that famous title they lifted in front of an empty stadium. They waited 30 years and then we were hit by a pandemic.

If you look at how the league has been playing out this year, it seems all the team's were suffering from a pandemic.

This season, Liverpool were up against the small club from London and are being challenged by Nottingham Forrest, led by a man who left the Premier League to become a millionaire in Saudi Pro League and then returned to accept the only job available.

However, Nuno Espirito Santo has turned this Nottingham team into a real contender for the future and nobody really expected the Forrest boys to put up a show.

The difference between these two competing clubs is that Nottingham Forrest actually managed to get their hands on their Champions League at one stage and Arsenal fail every year to do so.

Looks like it will be another year as they either face Real Madrid or Athletico Madrid in the next round, after whipping PSV 7 - 1 in their first leg.

But, let's build ourselves up to say it: "Congratulations Liverpool Football Club for winning arguably one of the toughest seasons the Premier League could offer."

Let them have their way with the cup until they have to hand it over next season again as they have proven over the years that they are unable to win back to back titles - they're about to lose a few key players, so things will get very interesting on the red half of the Merseyside next season.

One thing is for sure, GoalMOUTH will be present reminding them of every single moment.
