Cape Town Opera’s Luvo Rasemeni in an excerpt from The Magic Flute.

Cape Town Opera’s Youth Development and Education department, in association with the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, presented excerpts of Mozart’s The Magic Flute opera to Grade 12 pupils in a General Music Knowledge Prescribed Works Performance and Workshop.

The pupils from across the province all take music as a subject. The workshop on Saturday July 27 at Durbanville High School gave them an opportunity to experience the music live.

Aside from The Magic Flute arias, various other orchestral works were also performed such as the Pastoral Symphony by Beethoven (4th and 5th movement) and the Hebrides Overture by Mendelssohn.

To find out how to apply for Cape Town Opera’s upcoming auditions for their Children’s Chorus and Foundation Studio, taking place on Thursday August 29 and Friday August 30, respectively at the Artscape theatre, email madrel@capetownopera.co.za
