Cape Town is set to host the highly anticipated Fujifilm Instax Undisputed Masters for the first time at the iconic V&A Waterfront on Saturday January 18.
The event will bring together the best of the best in breaking, promising to be a landmark celebration of both local and international talent. With free entry and open to all ages, the event invites everyone to come and experience the electrifying energy of world-class breaking.
The stakes for the Cape Town edition are especially high, as this final event before the World Finals in Tokyo in March next year, will feature the world’s top B-boys and B-girls competing for top honours. To add even more excitement, the winners of the Solo Women and Solo Men battles will earn a trip to Tokyo to compete in the World Final and represent Africa on the global stage.
This anticipation makes the event a defining moment for breaking culture across Africa and beyond.
In addition to the solo battles, Undisputed Masters event will also host a crew battle. The rules for crews are the same as for the solo battles but the dynamics are different. Each round of a crew battle offers flexibility for crews to decide their approach. They can send in one dancer or they might opt for a group routine. This is a dance routine performed by two or more dancers.
Overall, crew battles provide an opportunity for dance crews to demonstrate their teamwork, creativity, and unity on stage. The format allows for diverse strategies and performances, contributing to the dynamic and exciting nature of breaking competitions.
Adding to the buzz, Olympic gold medallist and breaking legend, Phil Wizard, is set to take the Cape Town stage, showcasing his signature jaw-dropping moves, innovation, and passion. For fans and aspiring breakers, it’s the chance to see a true icon of the sport live in action. Phil’s presence is sure to ignite the crowd and take the energy to new heights, making this an unmissable event on every dance fan’s calendar.
The competitions will be judged by an elite international panel, led by Renegade (UK) and Storm (GER), co-creators of the Trivium Judging System—the foundation for judging used at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
This advanced digital platform allows judges to score dancers in real-time based on three key criteria: physical, interpretative, and artistic quality.
Joining Renegade and Storm are Nemesis (USA) and South African icons Genetics and b-girl Vee. Their role on the panel highlights South Africa’s influence in the breaking community and offers an inspiring journey for emerging African breakers to aspire to.
With open categories for Solo Men, Solo Women and Crews the FUJIFILM INSTAXâ„¢ Undisputed Masters welcomes breakers from diverse backgrounds to display their creativity, skill, and resilience on the world stage. From first-time competitors to seasoned champions, this event promises a unique experience filled with the energy, artistry, and athleticism that define the spirit of breaking culture.
