A 12-year-old Milnerton girl who has been singing from the age of 4 has landed a chance to perform at an international music festival competition in Spain.
Earlier this year, Thanaa Voterson won gold medals in the solo vocal categories in both the regional and national legs of Talent Africa, a national talent competition. In doing so, she qualified to represent South Africa at the Mediterranean Legends competition in Spain in July next year, according to Talent Africa.
Talent Africa issued Thanaa with a sponsorship letter, saying: “This will be Talent Africa’s sixth time visiting this competition with a performing arts team.”
They further confirmed: “Thanaa Voterson has qualified for and would like to form a part of the Federation South African team that will be representing their country at the Mediterranean Legends competition in July of 2025.“
Thanaa’s family are now holding fund-raisers to cover air tickets and accommodation for both her and her father.
Thanaa sang in front of hundreds of people at a fund-raiser her parents, Shareef and Shafieka, organised for her at the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town on Friday November 29.
“Everything that is happening now is happening so fast, and it’s not giving us time to process everything. Thanaa has an exceptional talent, and we are extremely proud to be doing this with her,” said Mr Voterson. “Thanaa is a dedicated young artist with a promising future in music.“
Singer Mansoor Joseph, who has been working closely with Thanaa as a vocal coach, said she had an “exciting“ future ahead.
“She definitely knows how to capture an audience with her strong stage presence. I think she’ll knock them over in Spain after all the performance work we’ve put in.”
A Karaoke Night fund-raiser for Thanaa will be held at the Shelley Street Hall in Salt River on Friday December 20. Entry is R60. Call Shafieka at 065 898 7850 for tickets or for more information on how you can help Thanaa.
